Minutes of business meeting held at 11.00 on 21/08/18

The Chairman delivered a eulogy for David Fordy who had passed away on 6  July.

This was followed by the traditional one-minute club silence as a mark of respect.

The Chairman read out the Website ‘In Memoriam’ entries for Clive Addison and David Fordy to illustrate how this new addition to the site would work. Members approved.


1. There were 35 Members present with 6 apologies.

2. The Minutes of the Meeting held on 17.7.18  were accepted.

3. Matters Arising: The Chairman highlighted Item 2 and the praise for the Secretary and the quality of the Minutes. No other matters arising.

4. There were no Guests at the Meeting.

5. Committee Reports

The Treasurer highlighted payments for Trips.

The Secretary and Website Manager apologised for their absences.

The Speakerfinder had nothing to Report

6. Lunches.

The Chairman listed the current booking:

Wed. 3.10.18 at the Royal Oak in Great Ayton. Pre-orders not required. Menu emailed to Members.

Wed. 3.4.19 Blacksmiths Arms in Swainby. Provisional

Wed. 2.10.19 Two venues to be offered by the Chairman

The Chairman asked Members to give consideration to alternative days and dates for these events with proposals and support from Members being the deciding factor in any change (future agenda item).

7. Trips

The Chairman detailed the visits currently organised.

Wed. 29.8.18 Whitby and Glaisdale (Pub meal & Theatre): 12 Members & 12 Guests booked with 9 apologies - Two Members made private bookings.

Fri. 30.11.18 York (Goddard House, Treasurer’s House meal, Tour of Minster, Christmas Market) - 12 Members & 10 Guests booked with 12 apologies.

Thurs. 26.9.19 Les Miserable at the Theatre Royal, Newcastle - 5 Members & 4 Guests booked with 16 apologies.

The Chairman asked Members to let him know if there were any queries, comments or additional Members or Guests who would like to attend any of the Trips.

8. AOB

The Chairman invited Members to visit the Cleveland Society of Art Exhibition on display in the Hall.

The Chairman highlighted the service of Chris Stirk who was stepping down after 18 years from his role preparing refreshments. He presented a small ‘thank you’ gift on Classic Cars to Chris.

Keith Bell and John Edwards volunteered to assume the responsibilities. This was appreciated as this social start to the Meetings is regarded as very important.  

The Fun Draw of Train Spotting Gift Sets (DVD and Books) were won by Garry Turner and Jack Candlin.

9. The next Meeting is Tuesday 11th  September with Tony Eaton talking about The

Bomber Boys.
