STOKESLEY PROBUS CLUB.

Minutes of the Meeting held on 17th October

Peter Robinson on holiday. (Keith taking Notes – sorry.)

1. There were 35 Members present with 9 apologies

2. The Minutes for 12.9.17 were accepted as a true record.

3. There were no matters arising

4. New Member.

Keith introduced Alan Cross who was now attending as a New Member following guest visits.

5. Guests.

Keith introduced David Moreton who was attending as a Guest of David Middleton. David is well-known to members through JP and Golf circles and living locally.

6. Committee Reports.

David, Treasurer, presented a Financial Report on the Visit from 27.9.17

He introduced Information on the Christmas Lunch at the Wainstones on Tuesday 12th December. Members were asked to place orders for meals and provide payment to David no later than the next Meeting on 21st November.  The cost is £17pp. Keith provide hardcopies of the information and order forms.

Stefan, Website Manager, reported on his update to the website and responded to questions from members who had experienced access problems.

Keith, Speaker Finder, requested suggestions for Speakers to be considered for the next Programme 2018/19

There were no questions or comments from Members for the Committee.

7. Member Lunch

This was held at Tockett’s Mill on 4th October. 9 members attended with 9 apologies. Members reported that this had been a good venue with a good meal at a reasonable price. An enjoyable occasion.

8. Trips

The Chairman asked Members to consider providing mobile telephone numbers so that members can be contacted in the case of any difficulty or confusion. Chris Lee added that it would be helpful for all Members to know who is boarding the Coach at which point. This would be useful information but for convenience members choose pick up points which might change. Members generally supported the idea. The Chairman will include the request for mobile numbers for future trips and circulate the travel organisation.

NGC; Bellinis; Souter Trip.

16 Members and 10 Guests with 4 apologies enjoyed this trip.

Members generally agreed that it was an excellent day. The Glass-blowing demonstration earned particular praise. The concerns were that the meal service was a little slow and that more time would have been beneficial at the two venues. Derek Whiting had submitted a Report with  photographs to the DST. The report was published which the Chairman read out to Members. He thanked Derek for the positive publicity for the Club.

Future Trips.

The Chairman asked for suggestions for 2019.

One provisional trip is proposed for Wed 6th June 2018 to the Ryedale Vineyards in the morning and either Nunnington Hall or Beningborough Hall in the afternoon. Approx cost £30pp or £20pp for NTMembers. To be confirmed.

The Chairman informed Members that My Fair Lady was showing at the Grand Opera House Theatre in York in November 2017 approx. cost £40 or £50pp depending on morning activity. There was NO interest in booking this show based on a show of hands.

The Chairman informed Members that War Horse was showing at the Empire Theatre in Sunderland in February 2019 Cost £50pp for the theatre after discount plus coach and morning activity costs. Approx £70pp There were only 2 members interested following a show of hands.

Stefan Barnes suggested a visit to a Ballet. Two members indicated an interest. The Chairman to research options.

9. AOB

The Chairman highlighted the sale of Lapel Pins for Remembrance Day at £2 each on behalf of Alwyn Boulby.

Probus Club equipment removed from the Town Hall:

The Slide Projector is with Mike Irving

The Microphone system is with Keith Bell

The extension lead is with Keith Burton

The Projector stand is with the Chairman. The Town Hall declined it.

Minor and obsolete items have been discarded.

Three books on Gardening for Seniors were won by Maj Chuhan, Keith Burton and Brian Nicholls.
