Set on the Helmsley to Stokesley road Chop Gate runs along the B1257, at the junction of Bilsdale and Raisdale nestling on the moor side overlooking Bilsdale.
Chop Gate, is pronounced ‘Chop Yat' and means Pedlers Way.
The dale lies beside the Coast to Coast Walk and the Cleveland Way, between the viewpoints at the tops of Clay Bank to the North and Newgate Bank to the South
