Business Meeting

A new member, Stefan Barnes, was introduced. He lives locally & has 3 children & 2 grandchildren. He joined ICI in 1965 & worked for them & their successors, Huntsman & Sabic, until retirement.  His interests include DIY & reading non-fiction.

The Christmas lunch was universally acclaimed as a success with 20 members & 18 guests attending.

The constitution of the club requires revision to allow the club & committee to operate with fewer members.  Also, the bank mandate requires amendment & changes to the constitution will facilitate this. Revised wording was agreed by the committee & this will be placed on the website, with hard copies available for the next meeting. The chairman mentioned two possibilities for future visits.  The York Civic Trust offers a Curator‟s tour for groups & Stockton Garden Centre run coach trips to local gardens.  A further possibility suggested by Chris Stirk is a matinee performance at the Theatre Royal, Newcastle( or an afternoon shopping). Anyone interested in these trips should contact the Chairman at, or before, the next meeting.

A new committee will be elected at the AGM & nominations for Chairman & for Vice Chairman are needed. An appeal to the membership for nominations was made by the chairman & Mervin Davies stressed the importance of members contributing to the running of the club to ensure its survival .The talk at the next meeting on 21st February 2012 will be by Jerry Drewett & is entitled “The Work of the Harbour Master” The speaker for the 20th March will be Steve Lanes talking about “the Hurdy Gurdy Man”
